Sierra Leone Airports Authority Enhances Operational Status

That airports around the world cannot operate effectively without electricity is why the Sierra Leone Airports Authority (SLAA) management has ensured the commissioning of a 500 KVA Parkins generator to complement other stand-by generators to augment its operations.
The 500 KVA Parkins generator was commissioned last week to alleviate the shortfall in electricity supply and demand capacity experienced at the international airport due to the frequent breakdown of generators installed to serve it since 1990.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, SLAA General Manager Donald C.O. Bull said the constraints his management experienced was due to the outdated generators, which had clearly outlived their usefulness and needed to be replaced.
He mentioned about a complementary electricity supply plan by the World Bank for the airport, which according to him would mean an additional four generators in the pipe line, bringing the total number of generators for the airport to eight (8).
The Chairman of the Technical Committee of SLAA, Prof. Redwood Sawyer dilated on electricity supply to the airport, which he compared to food security and underscored the importance that airport electricity security is equal to food security because without it no airport in the world will run well and safely.
A senior manager at the airport remarked that electricity and infrastructural support are both important because they contribute to the development of a country.
The 500 KVA generator out-put was tested and guaranteed by European Standards engineers before recommended by the airport authorities for procurement.
