28 x 500kVA special build PowerPro gensets

20 Jan 2009

During early 2008, Powersource Projects tendered for and were pleased to be awarded a large contract for 28 units of 500kVA from (Anglo Coal, a division of Anglo American) one of the largest mining companies in Africa.

Taking note of the clients’ firm desire for a reliable yet flexible solution for their multiple mining sites, a custom designed package comprising Perkins 2506-E15TAG2 engine running at 500 kVA prime duty was selected to be coupled to a Newage Stamford alternator with droop kit and PMG upgrade for improved local acceptance/voltage stability characteristics.

The complete power unit was enclosed within a base mounted acoustic and weather protecting enclosure and controlled via the latest COMAP system integrated with the J1939 electronic engine management system, which allowed fully automatic synchronising/load sharing with “plug and play” connections to allow the client to mix and match the quantity of sets according to the individual conditions and power requirements of each site.

Specific notice was taken of our clients’ need to meet stringent health and safety criteria and arduous operating conditions. Powersource Projects achieved this with the use of specially prepared stickers, enhanced operating manuals and upgrades to fuel tank/supply and engine pre-heating.

All gensets were inspected and witness tested at works in UK prior to shipment in 14 containers and have arrived safely in Durban port for onward carriage to site.
